As a South African artist, I am blessed to be surrounded by picturesque land and seascapes, but nothing quite beats the variety of  gorgeous wildlife that can be found around the country.  I don’t think that there are many South African artists who have not at some point in their careers, painted or drawn one of the famed “Big 5”.  I have previously done both water colour and acrylic paintings of the animals, so this time I decided to do another graphite drawing of an African Lion.  Let me tell you, drawing fur, is not for the faint hearted.  Instinctively, I want to draw every tiny little strand of fur… that gets tired very quickly.  the problem is,  the more detail and time spent on the fur, the better the drawing looks, but it also feels like it’s never going to end. It took more than 2 weeks to get this lion done, mainly because I didn’t want to ruin it by getting bored of drawing fur.  Hopefully he result isn’t disappointing.
